When employers talk about the lack of women in technology, it’s often raised in the context of the skills gap. How can we fill the roles we have, if we can’t access half the population? Dig a little deeper, however, and the debate becomes far broader: a diverse workforce is more open, more creative, more productive and the people in it more engaged and excited by what they do. Colleges are being required to tackle gender imbalances at the subject level in a number of subject areas, including IT and Computer Sciences. This new research published by the Tech Partnership throws fresh light on the long standing problem of attracting female students to digital education and careers and identifies new ways of changing female perceptions of digital careers.
