40 students from the College’s Faculty of Care and Science took part in a trip to Malta to learn about the disciplines of Health, Social Care, Early Education and Childcare and how they are practiced internationally.
Funded by Erasmus+ to give students a flavour of different working environments and cultures, students from across the College’s three main campuses – Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Motherwell – took on 10-days of work experience with organisations across Malta, and took part in language lessons and cultural tours and experiences.
Students and their families attended the information evening which included talks from the organisers and lecturers who joined the students, detailing important information and what to expect. Former students also shared their own experiences and insights.
Maltese-themed food was provided in the College’s ML One training restaurant by two Maltese chefs – John Paul Pisani and Mohamad Yassini – with the help of the College’s Hospitality and Professional Cookery students. The chefs were invited to give the students a real taste of Malta.
Students were also encouraged to network with former students in attendance, along with the European Mobility Exchange partner, Paul Falzon, to find out more about what to expect.
Nicola Wyman, Assistant Head of Faculty of Care and Science at the College, said: ‘The event was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended.
It is very important that learners have as much information about the country, customs and culture prior to departure and this session helped them to gain a better understanding of what will be involved in the trip.
The Erasmus programme affords opportunities that are invaluable to students and one which equips them with a varied range of skills that will not only support them during their time at college, but will support their future educational and employability opportunities.
